Welcome Prospective Players.
This page is intended to help you get acquainted with our league and answer any questions you may have.
The Chicago North Men’s Senior Baseball League has been in existence for 23 years and has now grown to include five age brackets; 25 and over, 35 and over, 45 and over and 55 and over, 60 and over. Players come from all walks of life, and from all over the Chicagoland area. They also have a wide range of baseball backgrounds; some guys played college and minor league ball, while others joined us straight from the softball field or after a 20+ year layoff with nothing but a youth league background. Many players also choose to play on multiple teams (though only on one /division.)
We play using Major League Baseball rules and also have added other rules for increased safety to all players.
Each age division plays 22-30 regular season games from April to September, followed by playoffs. Also, the 5 divisions each play on specific days/nights which allows players to be better able to plan around their baseball schedule and avoid conflicts. The 25 division plays most games on Monday and Friday nights with an occasional game on Wednesday night; the 35's play on Tuesday and Thursday nights and Sundays; the 45’s play Wednesday (occasionally on Tues or Thurs) nights and Sundays; the 55’s play mostly on Saturdays plus random weeknights; and the 60's play mostly on Mondays or Tuesdays and Friday (occasionally on Sunday afternoon). Most night games are scheduled at 6:00 and 8:30 PM.
Virtually all games are played at the following fields: Geils Field in Bensenville, Oakton Community College in Des Plaines,Recreation Park in Arlington Heights and Meadowhill Park in Northbrook. (Please see our Fields for location details.)
The per person cost usually is about $350 plus the one-time cost of a uniform. As to the time committment, the number of games you play is pretty much up to you, but most managers want full time guys. All games are 7 innings and usually run 2-2.5 hours.
We will conduct a new player evaluation session in March and place players shortly thereafter. All new players must register for and participate in the evaluation session to be placed on a team.
Sign up now for the 2014 season and we will inform you of the details as plans are made. If you have additional questions, please contact the league Player Personnel Director, Mark Horwitz, at firstname.lastname@example.org
